How to get from the Gili Islands to Komodo

The journey has three simple stages:

Cross from your Gili island to Lombok. A short fast-boat hop brings you from the Gilis to the Lombok mainland (the Bangsal area).
Transfer to the departure harbour. From there you travel across Lombok to Kayangan Harbour on the island’s east coast, where the sailing boats depart.
Set sail for Komodo. You board the boat and begin the multi-day voyage east — the real adventure starts here.

From Gili Trawangan to Komodo

On Gili Trawangan, guests gather first at our counter/office on the island. From there you travel together with our team across to Bangsal on the Lombok mainland — so you’re accompanied from the very start rather than finding your own way. Aim to be ready early, as the group needs to reach Bangsal in good time for check-in and the trip briefing.

From Gili Meno to Komodo

Gili Meno, the quiet middle island, follows the same route as Gili Air: a public speedboat across to Bangsal on the Lombok mainland — again, an early start (around 7:00 AM) is best — where you check in and receive the briefing before the onward transfer. Let us know you’re staying on Meno in advance so we can arrange the smoothest connection.

From Gili Air to Komodo

Gili Air is the island closest to Lombok, so the crossing is quick: a public speedboat from Gili Air to Bangsal takes only about 15–20 minutes. We recommend catching an early boat — leaving Gili Air by around 7:00 AM — so you reach Bangsal in good time for check-in and the trip briefing before the onward transfer to the departure harbour.

At Bangsal: check-in, briefing & the transfer to Kayangan Harbour

Once you reach Bangsal, you’ll check in and receive the trip briefing before the onward journey to Kayangan Harbour, the departure port on Lombok’s east coast. How that onward transfer is organised depends on the group that day:

On days with fewer guests at Bangsal, everyone is brought together at our head office in Kopang — a central gathering point where guests arriving from Kuta, Senggigi, Mataram, and elsewhere in Lombok all converge, so the whole group can continue to Kayangan Harbour together and reach the port more efficiently.
On days with more guests picked up at Bangsal, the group usually heads directly from Bangsal to Kayangan Harbour after check-in and the briefing.

Either way, we coordinate the timing — you just need to reach Bangsal early enough, which is why we suggest the early-morning boat from the Gilis.
