April to June (Pre-Monsoon): Considered prime time for trekking. The weather is dry, the landscape is lush post-rain, and it’s comfortably mild for your trekking adventure.
July to August (Peak Season): The dry season’s pinnacle! Clear skies, stable weather – perfect for Rinjani Trekking. Get ready for breathtaking views of the surroundings and the crater lake.
September to November (Post-Monsoon): Still a solid time for trekking. The weather stays dry, and while it’s a tad less crowded than peak season, conditions remain favorable.
Remember, not recomended (December to March). Heavy rainfall, slippery trails, and landslides make it less than ideal. The national park might even close for safety. Before you embark on your trek, check the weather and park status close to your chosen dates. And, of course, pick a reliable trekking operator, get the permits, and prep yourself for the trek’s physical demands. Happy trekking!

Rinjani Trekking Route Via Senaru

You can easily book or charter a travel car available at the airport to ensure a smooth journey. The journey from Praya in Central Lombok to Senaru Village usually takes about 4 hours. Therefore, climbers often pay around Rp 600,000 from the airport to Senaru Village in North Lombok.

From Senaru Basecamp to Pos 1 Senaru, you will enjoy tree-lined views along the trail. The journey from Senaru Basecamp to Pos 1 is estimated to take 1-2 hours. The cool conditions make climbers comfortable walking, even during the day.
From Pos 1 to Pos 2 Senaru is still relatively flat like the Sembalun route, but you will continue to pass through the forest area. The maximum estimated time from Pos 1 Senaru to Pos 2 is 2-3 hours of travel. At Pos 2 Senaru, there are two gazebos or shelters for climbers to rest. Continuing to Pos 3 Senaru, you will pass through the gaps of the Senaru Forest accompanied by the sounds of monkeys and the richness of wildlife. Although the route from Pos 2 Senaru to Pos 3 takes a long time, around 4 hours, the beauty of the Senaru route makes it worthwhile.
On the Senaru route, spring water can only be found at Pos 2, and that too only during the rainy season. Therefore, climbers are advised to bring enough water as part of their travel preparation. Pos 3 Senaru marks the boundary of the Senaru Forest towards Pelawangan Senaru. From Pos 3 to Pelawangan Senaru, the journey does not pass through the forest and can be completed in just 1-2 hours. At Pelawangan Senaru, climbers can enjoy the view of Lake Segara Anak, similar to Pelawangan Sembalun. With an altitude of around 2500 meters above sea level, Pelawangan Senaru becomes an ideal place to set up tents and rest after a challenging journey.
Rinjani Trekking Route Via Aiq Berik
If you’re starting your journey from Lombok Airport or Mataram City, renting a vehicle for around Rp 500,000 is a wise choice. Sharing an Avanza car at this rate with your climbing buddies makes the trip more budget-friendly. The route involves traveling from Lombok Airport/Mataram City to Mantang Village, Central Lombok (Mantang Market), and then to Aik Berik Village.
Embarking on the Mount Rinjani trek through Aik Berik provides a unique experience. This path is close to Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfalls in Aik Berik Village, part of the Benang Stokel Tourist Area. From Aik Berik Basecamp to the Aik Berik climbing route forest gate, you can walk approximately 2 km or take a motorcycle taxi at a fare of around Rp 20,000 per person.
From the forest gate, the 2-3 hour journey to Aik Berik Post 1 takes you through local coffee, orange, and banana plantations. The Aik Berik route boasts abundant water sources, especially at Post 1, where a river flows right next to the shelter for climbers. The clear water means you don’t need to worry about running out of water.
The trek from Post 1 to Aik Berik Post 2 takes 3-4 hours through the refreshing Aik Berik Forest. At Post 2, there are water sources and ferns that can be picked as vegetables.
The journey from Post 2 to Aik Berik Post 3, about 2-3 hours through the wilderness, requires foot protection like shoes and gaiters to fend off leeches along the trek. The beautiful Umar Maya Waterfall in the distance is an added bonus on this leg of the journey.
Upon reaching Post 3, you can rest or stay overnight. If you continue to Plawangan Umar Maya, you’ll be treated to views of the lake on the West-South side of Mount Rinjani, directly facing the majestic Rinjani Peak. Enjoying the natural beauty of Rinjani through Aik Berik is an unforgettable experience.
Rinjani Trekking Route Via Timbanuh
The Timbanuh route, located in Timbanuh Village, Pringgasela District, East Lombok, serves as the gateway to Mount Rinjani, with the climbing post situated at an altitude of approximately 800 meters above sea level. Despite limited facilities, trekking through this route offers a unique adventure. This trail doesn’t take climbers all the way to the summit of Mount Rinjani since Pelawangan (the pass) is at an elevation of around 2,500 meters above sea level. Nonetheless, you can still enjoy the surrounding beauty, including views of the crater, the edge of Lake Segara Anak, Mount Baru Jari, and the captivating Rinjani Peak.
The trek begins from the Mount Rinjani National Park Office at Timbanuh Village, and registration is required as a prerequisite before starting the ascent of Mount Rinjani. The journey to Pos 1 Timbanuh can be covered in 1-2 hours from the National Park Office, passing through the Timbanuh forest and local plantations. Although the trail to Pos 1 Timbanuh is not very steep, this post provides a flat area, albeit without shelter. From Pos 1 to Pos 2 Timbanuh, the journey takes 2-3 hours through the lush forest. Remnants of wild boar digging will be a common sight. It is essential to avoid setting up tents in the middle of the forest to avoid endangering oneself from wild boars.
Pos 2 provides a shelter for rest, but it is advisable to avoid camping under sloping cliffs to prevent landslides. Here, climbers can also fetch water from the spring below the shelter, although bottle refilling may take some time. The journey to Pos 3 Timbanuh returns to the forest from Pos 2. Passing through three steep hills, this journey drains the energy of climbers. The travel time from Pos 2 to Pos 3 is 2-3 hours, with opportunities to pick forest strawberries along the way.
Pos 3 Timbanuh is equipped with three shelters for resting. For those wishing to pitch tents, it is recommended near the water source under the Pos 3 valley. There is a spacious area under Pos 3 with a swift-flowing spring for bathing and cooking, as well as two bathrooms. From Pos 3 to Pelawangan Timbanuh, the normal journey can be completed in 2-3 hours. Through vast savannahs, climbers can enjoy beautiful scenery. The gentle trek up to Cemara ‘Nunggal’ allows for rest while enjoying the panorama of Orplas Rinjani Peak below the highest point of Rinjani.
After passing Cemara Nunggal, two hills adorned with Edelweiss and Forest Strawberries beautify the trail before Pelawangan Timbanuh. Forest strawberries, considered a morale booster by the Timbanuh community, add their own charm.
Upon reaching Pelawangan Timbanuh, at an altitude of 2700 meters above sea level, enjoy the Rinjani Crater with Mount Baru Jari in its center. To reach Lake Segara Anak through Pelawangan Timbanuh, it is advisable to go with experienced Timbanuh residents.
